Solace In Solitude

I've discovered something interesting while spending time in solitude. There's solace ~ comfort, rest and peace ~ in being alone. When I am alone I tend to get philosophical about life. So, here are some of my thoughts. Life is what we make of it ~ aside from things beyond our control. We can fret and worry about an unknown future ~ or we can choose to trust the one who holds our future in His hands. I have decided to trust my unknown future to God.

Many today are desperately lonely. Maybe their hearts are really longing for God? Does He let us be lonely so we won’t be satisfied with lesser things ~ lonely until our hearts are only satisfied in Him? Is that how God gets our attention? Does He strip away things of this life that distract us from Him? Does our solace in solitude come from surrendering to Him?

If our solitude ~ our alone, empty spaces ~ sometimes lonely places ~ are filled with God ~ with His love ~ with His power ~ with His enabling ~ does that banish loneliness?

Sometimes when we are alone we can become afraid ~ it can seem we are abandoned by God. Nothing could be further from the truth. Even when we don’t sense His presence ~ as Francis Schaeffer said, “He is there and He is not silent.”Jesus promised, “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you. I am with you always, even to the end of the world."

I didn't choose to be alone. Will I be alone for the rest of my life? I don’t know. God knows. I am letting Him decide. He who spoke the stars into existence and calls them by name ~ who holds the universe together by the word of His power ~ can certainly hold my fragile life ~ and yours ~ together. We can trust Him. Even when the road is uncertain ~ maybe the view is desolate ~ maybe it's hard to see the way ~ He is there ~ leading and guiding us ~ if we let Him.

Can we find solace in solitude? Psalm 68:6 says, “God sets the solitary in families.” If we belong to God we are part of His eternal family. When we feel lonely, we need to remember there is only One who can meet our needs. There is only One who offers rest, solace, peace, comfort, and consolation ~ now and forever.

So, when you feel alone ~ overcome by life ~ rest in the knowledge God is near. He loves you. Trust Him. Talk to Him. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5,6 Please leave a comment ~ I'd love to hear your thoughts. (Scroll down to find comments). Please leave your name. Blessings, Beloved of God.
